Terms & Conditions

“uLearn.lk”, “we”, “us” means uLearn (Private) Limited and the ulearn.lk website + apps. “You” means the user — a Teacher, Student, parent or visitor. These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and us.

• You must be at least 13 years old to register a Student account and at least 18 years old to register a Teacher account. Students under 18 must have parental/guardian consent.
• You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your login credentials confidential. Activity on your account is your responsibility.
• Teachers and students must complete KYC verification per our Privacy Policy before unlocking the full set of features (public listing for teachers; connections for students).
• One account per person. We may close duplicate accounts and consolidate their data.

uLearn.lk is a marketplace. We provide the platform that lets teachers list their services and students discover, connect with and pay them. The teacher is the merchant of the class being delivered; uLearn.lk is the merchant only for our own platform add-ons (subscriptions, ads, SMS, featured slots, Verified+).

We are not party to the tuition contract between a teacher and their student. Quality of teaching, course content, scheduling discipline and attendance at sessions are the teacher’s responsibility; behaving respectfully in class is the student’s.

• Maintain accurate profile information, including subjects taught, grades, locations and fees.
• Deliver the classes you have advertised, on the schedule you have published.
• Not misrepresent your qualifications, results or popularity. We verify results through student confirmations; fabricating results may lead to your batches being flagged out of the ranking and your account suspended.
• Handle student data responsibly. You are acting as a data processor on uLearn.lk’s behalf for student records you record (attendance, homework, results). Do not extract these records for purposes outside your teaching engagement.
• Comply with Sri Lankan tax obligations on income earned through the platform.

• Provide accurate information at sign-up and KYC, including a real parent contact for students under 18.
• Pay class fees per the schedule agreed with your teacher.
• Respond honestly to result-verification requests from your teachers. Fake confirmations are a violation of these terms.
• Treat teachers and other students with respect in chats, wall posts and reviews.

• All payments are processed by Stripe. By submitting payment you authorize the charge for the amount displayed.
• uLearn.lk charges a processing fee on class fees paid through the platform; the rate is shown to the teacher in the wallet section and is also reflected in the student-facing receipt. Add-on purchases by teachers (subscriptions, SMS, featured slots, Verified+) are non-split — the full amount is platform revenue.
• Teacher payouts are processed manually by the uLearn.lk team once a teacher requests one. We deduct the accrued processing fee and transfer the net amount to the teacher’s nominated bank account.
• Prices and fee rates may change with notice; existing subscriptions and prepaid ads will run out at the price you paid.

Teachers may upload result batches summarizing student exam outcomes. These feed into a public quality ranking computed by uLearn.lk using a Bayesian model (raw evidence × confidence + a shrunk platform prior, multiplied by bonuses for verified reviews, active-student popularity and grade-boundary retention).

Teachers must attribute specific students to claimed grades; named students are asked to confirm or reject the attribution and may attach evidence. Batches with rejected attributions appear in an admin moderation queue and can be flagged out of the ranking. The exact formula and weights are visible to each teacher on their rankings page.

You agree not to post, share or upload content that:

• Is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit or violates anyone’s privacy.
• Promotes violence, self-harm or illegal activity.
• Infringes intellectual-property rights or misrepresents authorship.
• Spams, scams, phishes, or solicits users off-platform to evade our processing fee.
• Contains malware, scraping scripts, or any code intended to damage or probe the platform.

The Wall is moderated. Posts and comments that accrue a threshold of reports are auto-hidden pending admin review and may be permanently removed.

You retain ownership of content you upload (lesson PDFs, photos, posts, reviews). By uploading, you grant uLearn.lk a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display that content as needed to operate the platform — including making it visible to the audiences you choose (your students, public profile viewers, the Wall).

uLearn.lk’s name, logos, code and visual design are our property. Don’t reproduce them outside the platform without our written permission.

We may suspend or terminate an account that materially breaches these Terms, repeatedly violates content rules, fabricates results or fraudulently transacts. Automated warnings escalate to a temporary suspension after the third strike. You may close your account at any time from your account settings; financial-record retention applies as described in the Privacy Policy.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, uLearn.lk and its officers, employees and affiliates are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform. We make no warranty that the platform will be uninterrupted or error-free.

For class delivery itself (teaching quality, student outcomes), the teacher remains the responsible party — uLearn.lk facilitates the transaction and provides tools, but is not the educator.

Where liability is established, uLearn.lk’s aggregate liability for any single claim is limited to the lesser of LKR 50,000 or the total fees you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

You agree to indemnify uLearn.lk from claims arising out of your breach of these Terms, your content, or your interactions with other users — including reasonable legal fees we incur defending such claims.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. Any dispute that cannot be resolved amicably is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Colombo.

We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version is always available at this URL with a “Last updated” date. For material changes we will notify you in-app or by email before they take effect. Continued use of uLearn.lk after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
